Frux Frugis Shiraz

This wine exhibits a dark ruby colour, portraying concentration and intensity. The nose shows lifted aromas of ripe fruits such as plum, black cherry, and a fine spice blend of cinnamon and liquorice. The full palate of rich black cherry, juicy plum, and black pepper spice has fine silky tannins and exceptional length – leaving a dark chocolate aftertaste for that lasting impression. Decant for at least 1 hour.

Old vines, Blewitt Springs, sand over clay. Small batch ferment, hand harvested, 15 days skin contact. Pressed to new and older French oak hogsheads, 12 months maturation, the finest barrels are selected prior to blending and an additional 12 months oak maturation.

Deep crimson with an opaque purple core. Intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum are layered with dark chocolate, liquorice, black pepper and beautifully integrated French oak. The palate is full-bodied and luxuriously textured, delivering concentrated dark fruit, velvety tannins and remarkable depth. Rich notes of mocha, cedar, savoury spice and fine oak unfold effortlessly, leading to an exceptionally long, seamless finish that showcases outstanding balance, precision and class. Every swirl reveals another layer of complexity, power and elegance.

Opulent and multi-layered, the captivating wine shows dark-fruit richness, smoked game, dried flowers, toasted spice, vanilla, and toasty oak. It's concentrated and richly textured with outstanding depth and persistence, wonderfully framed by plush texture and beautifully melded tannins. Firmly structured yet supple and velvety with a sustained, satisfying finish. At its best: now to 2039.

This is velvety but not syrupy, intense with sweet fruit flavour but not baked of overdone. It’s classic in a brute force kind of way. It tastes of redcurrant, blackcurrant, plums, cloves, and an assortment of florals and mint, with milk coffee, choc-orange and roasted spice notes all contributing handsomely, and positively. This is one hell of a wine, all told. It’s big and it’s beautiful.

2021 was a great vintage in the McLaren Vale region and it is fabulous to still see wines from that year available. Every cellar should be well-stocked with these gems. The fruit came from a single vineyard in the famed Blewitt Springs sub-region, old bush vines. 40% whole bunches were included in the fermentation, and maturation was for a year in a mix of French and American oak hogsheads. At that stage, the team selected the best barrels, blended them, and gave the wine a further twelve months in oak. Under Diam. Deep maroon/blood red with a lighter crimson edge, the wine opens with plenty of toasty oak notes. Good integration, but it is definitely one for those who enjoy touch of oak. We also have notes of chocolate, dark berries, kirsch, plums, leather and earth. Seamless in structure, with bright and zesty acidity, the wine is of medium to good length, finishing with sleek tannins. A fifteen-year proposition.
