Unicus Shiraz 2018
Lifted blackberry, cedar and dark spices with hints of chocolate and aniseed. Rich, ripe palate showing abundant dark fruit and spices supported by smoky oak. Fine, chalky tannins and great length.
Blewitt Springs, sand over clay. Small batch ferment, harvested and sorted, 10 days skin contact in small open fermenters with hand plunging. Pressed to new and older French and American oak hogsheads, 12 months maturation, barrel selection, blended, additional 6 months oak maturation.
Region: McLaren Vale, South Australia
Analysis: Alcohol 14.5%
"This is your classic, big McLaren Vale style. Is it subtle, well not really, but who cares with this level of decadence and flavour. Everything is turned up to the max with jammy, lashings of dark fruit matched up to equally powerful, sweet coconut scented oak with just enough eucalypt and spice to add a savoury edge. That fruit density is echoed on the palate with fruit richness, power and length, with well integrated tannins. Don’t think too much, just enjoy."
